New table centrepiece for 2016

We often make bespoke table centrepieces for our clients but here is one we have designed with a little luxury in mind. Here we have a 24 cm vase, featuring: pink/white lisianthus, a crystal base, golden beads & bedecked with 3 gold floating candles.

Balloon inflation is not rocket science.

Balloon inflation is not rocket science. Neither is making a cake, but you probably wouldn’t make your own wedding cake.

I am always amazed when I  look at balloons  on ebay. The seller will advertise a design that would be great for a wedding at what appears to be a bargain price. He promises to supply full instructions. Sometimes a comparison with a professional balloon company is made to ram home the idea you are getting something for nothing. Of course you are not

sam ponder

It stands to reason that the first time you perform a task, any task , you will not be as good at it as you will be when you have done it 100 times. You may make mistakes and probably be slow to finish.

So no, balloon inflation isn’t rocket science but it does help if the person doing the inflating, has at least done it a few times before.

Helium filled 11″ latex balloons float properly for about 12 hours. This means that your entire venue has to be decorated on the morning of your wedding. I cannot imagine that anyone without previous experience would take on this task. If you do, remember to practise in advance.

DIY BALLOON DECOR

If you decide on DIY balloon décor, here are some tips.

  • make sure the balloons are helium quality, otherwise they may not stay inflated as long as you would wish
  • use a sizer to achieve the correct size: either buy one or look for a tutorial on “youtube” on how to make your own
  • we inflate balloons to 11″ for table bouquets, 10″ for an air filled arch
  • remember that an 11″ balloon will stay properly inflated for about 12 hours after which it will deflate noticeably –  you can’t do your display the day before!
  • if using a disposable helium cylinder be aware that the amount of balloons stated that the cylinder will fill is usually based on 9″ balloons which have much less float time than 11″
  • allow for wastage. Buy more balloons and helium than you think you might need: there are always flaws in any quantity of balloons, so you might fill 2 or 3  only to realise the helium has escaped through a hole.
  • cut your ribbons to the appropriate lengths in advance
  • don’t forget the weights: a 10 gram weight will hold up to 8 11″ balloons
  • you can save a lot of time by tying the ribbon and the balloon simultaneously.  Demonstration below:

Balloons inside balloons

Balloons inside balloons

I thought it might be helpful to describe some of the different balloon designs we have to offer. So this section is called “Balloons inside balloons” although I will also show some balloons that contain confetti.

These are clear 16″ balloons which contain 6 little heart balloons.

Both the larger and the smaller balloons need to be filled

with the same gas, so helium + helium or

air + air, otherwise the hearts will burst under the pressure.

This is a 5 balloon bouquet including a top double bubble.

A double bubble consists of an outer clear balloon inflated to 16″

with an 11″ balloon inside.  Both are inflated with helium.

The diamond clear balloon can be totally clear or can be printed

with a suitable message like “Just Married”or little flowers or stars.

This is a 16” confetti balloon.

It also has a hand made decorative tail to give

it a distinctive look. These can be dotted around

the dance floor and burst simultaneously

as a grand finale to the evening.

Exploding balloon

This is a 36″ balloon filled with 100 baby balloons.

It is filled with air and suspended from the ceiling.

There is a promise of excitement in the air

(literally speaking).

At a strategic point, the balloon is jabbed with a long wand,

the outer balloon burst and,in the words of a happy customer,

“there was a whoosh and everybody gasped”.

If we are not able to attach a 36″ balloon to the ceiling:

the ceiling could be too high, too low

or too fragile as in the case of a listed building,

we might build a structural support and place the balloon on top

or simply fill the balloon with confetti

and use helium to allow us to anchor it from the floor.
